"Wise Words"

You may have noticed a quote overprinting the snowflake on our Home Page (if not, go back and take a look!). It reads "You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him."

It was our most recent winner in our "Wise Words" quote contest (thank you to all who submitted your wonderful quotes)...as we thought it quite appropriate for the holiday season. Our winner was Jeanne Burke. She did not know who to attribute it to, so if you know, let us know! Jeanne also received a $30 gift certificate toward her next purchase in our webstore.

Our first quote, which overlayed the autumn leaf on our HomePage, was by Jalaluddin Rumi, the great Sufi mystic born in 1204 in ancient Persia, who wrote poetry as a means to express and teach divine illumination. His poems reflect the universal desire for something greater than ourselves; a psychic and spiritual energy that radiates love and draws us to our true nature. (from "Words of Paradise, Selected Poems of Rumi" published by Viking Studio).

This particular quote, "Let the beauty you love be what you do", has held profound meaning for me and had significant impact on my life. It was at the heart of why I created SENSES Gift Gallery: to find beauty that touched all my senses and to share it with others; and in so doing, hopefully bring more joy into our world.

You too may love a powerful turn of words, a thought that provokes your own contemplation. If so, we invite you to share it. This section of our webstore allows you the opportunity to submit a quote that has touched you. Each week, we will change the "Wise Words" quote that appears over the leaf, and we plan for it to be something that came not from us, but from you!

So, please send us something you think is worthy, and if we choose yours we'll give you $30 toward your next shopping trip with us. Meanwhile, it is my wish for you that the beauty you love is what you are doing--professionally or personally in your life--whether it be the beauty of animals, the human mind, or human body, architecture, nature, music, dance, words, food, or whatever it may be for you.
